Out of this necessity, Many Hands Action 501(c)(4) was created and we hosted a Community Catalyst Civic Engagement meeting in May 2024 entitled “What Does the Government Even Do?” to share about how active civic engagement can effect legislative decision making.
We hosted the Southeast New Mexico Food and Housing Summit in September 2024, and invited all of the candidates running for election to represent our communities in the House or Congress to come and see that the people in CD 2, HD 51, and HD 53 care about legislation that effects food and housing and to come share their stances on both.
Our community showed up and made it clear that affordable housing and local, affordable, and healthy food are all concerns we are considering when going to the polls. Many Hands Action endorsed candidates that expressed their support, alignment and willingness to have conversations regarding addressing these concerns should they be elected. We celebrate this victory for working people in southeast New Mexico, people who are ready to incite action to create change.
